Ayurveda & Massage


Ayurveda is a treatment modality which has a history of over 5000 years. It is a healing science that advocates about attaining holistic health with the help of different modes of treatment. The word Ayurveda consists of two words ‘ayu‘meaning life and ‘veda’ meaning knowledge. It encompasses the physical, psychological and spiritual realms of human life. Ayurveda, yoga and massage are the vital parts of any Indian Ayurvedic journey. Ayurvedic techniques are based on natural and are completely safe and reliable. In such treatments, there are very less chances of side effects and the healing, effect on the body forever. This natural way of treating any disease is gaining popularity world wide with more and more people adopting this super natural way of getting healed.

 

 

Some of the most common therapies used in Ayurveda are listed below.

  • Dhara

    In this therapy , herbal oil, medicated milk or butter milk and decoctions are poured gently on the forehead / whole body in a continuous stream. It is used for stress, mental tension, headache, insomnia etc.

  • Nasyam

    This is an effective Ayurvedic panchakarma therapy in which certain medicated oils and herbal extracts are administered through the nose. This therapy is highly effective for treating various ailments including migraine, mental disorders, premature greying of hair, loss of smell and taste and other hormonal imbalances.

  • Udhwarthanam

    Refers to specialised massage in which herbal powders are rubbed all over the body in a particular manner so that it could burn excess fat in the body. This process can exfoliate the skin and there by keeping the skin smooth and glowy. It is a tharapy used for obesity and rheumatic ailments.

  • Pizhichil

    It is a relaxing, soothing and rejuvenating treatment with medicated warm oil used in a continuous stream for a definite period for the whole body (excluding head & neck). It is used to effectively treat arthritis, ageing, general weakness, paralysis etc.

  • Njavarakizhi

    Consists of a deeply invigorating massage using small linen bags filled with special kind of cooked rice. The rice is prepared in milk and mixed with a special herbal decoction. The bags are then evenly massaged from the neck downwards, to induce sweat. This therapy is largely employed in the treatment of neurological disorders, chronic rheumatism, arthritis, malnutrition of limbs and recovery from broken bones.

  • Abhyanga

    This therapy refers to total body massage with herbal oils that tones up the skin and rejuvenates and strengthens all the tissues so as to achieve ideal health and longevity. This is also a cure for rheumatism.

  • Elakhi

    Elakhi is an innovative classical therapy in which the entire body is massaged with herbal poultices that are prepared with various herbs and medicated powders. It is used to tackle joint pain, muscle cramps, stress and arthritis. It promotes circulation and increases perspiration which in turn revitalises the skin.
